The rules for using Teach Study English: what's free, how accounts and paid plans work, what you can do with our materials, and your rights as a consumer.
These terms apply when you use Teach Study English at teachstudyenglish.com ("the site"). The site is run by Daniel Tomlinson, a private individual based in Spain, email hello@teachstudyenglish.com ("we", "us").
By using the site you agree to these terms. If you create an account or buy a plan, you confirm you've read them. Our privacy policy and cookie policy explain how we handle your data.
If you're a consumer, nothing in these terms takes away the rights you have under the law of the country where you live.
You can browse the library, use lesson pages and their online exercises, and play the games without an account. During early access, everything on the site is free, including the printable PDFs; downloading PDFs needs a free account and follows the fair use rules below.
Early access means the site is new: the library is still growing, and a lesson that hasn't had a teacher's review yet (marked "New") may contain a mistake. Please tell us with the Feedback button.
We work hard to keep the site available and accurate, but we may change, add or remove lessons and features, and the site may sometimes be unavailable for maintenance or reasons outside our control. If we remove something that's part of a plan you've paid for in a way that significantly reduces its value, we'll offer you a proportional refund.
These promises are part of these terms.
The free selection can change. Which lessons and materials are free may change over time, for example when subscriptions open or when new lessons are added. A change to the free selection is never a charge and never affects anything you have paid for: a payment is only ever taken when you choose a plan and confirm at checkout.
Subscriptions aren't open yet, and nothing is charged. We don't ask for payment details, and neither an account nor our updates list ("Keep me updated") can turn into a paid plan.
Before subscriptions open, we'll tell account holders and everyone on our updates list, publish the plans and prices, and update these terms with the payment, renewal and cancellation rules. Subscribing will always be your choice: a payment is only taken when you choose a plan, enter your payment details and confirm at checkout, under the terms in force then.
The lessons, worksheets, exercises, PDFs, word sets, games, illustrations, design and code of the site belong to us or our licensors and are protected by copyright. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use them as follows.
Free materials come under the same licence. These rules don't stop you quoting short extracts with credit, as the law allows.
You own what you write (for example answers to writing tasks) and your ratings. You give us permission to store it and show it back to you, and to use anonymous, combined results (such as how many people get a question wrong) to improve the lessons. We don't publish your writing. Leaderboards show only your first name and initial with your score. When you send feedback, we may use it to improve the site, and when we fix something you reported we may list the fix under "Fixed thanks to you", without your name. Don't submit anything unlawful, offensive or that you don't have the right to share.
When you use the site, you agree not to:
If you break these terms, we may suspend or close your account. Where it's fair to do so, we'll warn you first and explain why.
Video lessons are built around videos published on YouTube by their owners. The videos are shown through YouTube's embedded player and remain the property of their creators; YouTube's own terms apply to them. We aren't responsible for the content of other websites we link to.
Cambridge, B2 First, C1 Advanced and C2 Proficiency are trademarks of Cambridge University Press & Assessment. IELTS is a trademark of its owners. Teach Study English is not affiliated with or endorsed by them. Our exam materials are our own practice tasks in the exam's format, not official papers. CEFR levels on our materials are our own careful judgement.
We check our materials carefully for level, accuracy and fairness, and a teacher reviews each one (lessons show "Reviewed" once that's done), but we can't guarantee they're free of errors or suitable for every class, and we don't promise any exam result or level of progress. If you find a mistake, please tell us with the Feedback button and we'll fix it.
If you're a consumer: we're responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. We provide the site for personal and educational use; we aren't responsible for business losses such as lost profit or business interruption. Your legal rights in relation to digital content and services that are faulty or not as described remain unaffected.
If you use the site for business (for example as a school or a private teacher's business): to the extent the law allows, our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, and we aren't liable for indirect or consequential loss, or loss of profit, revenue, data or goodwill.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
We may update these terms, for example when we add features, when subscriptions open or when the law changes. We'll change the date at the top and, for changes that affect your rights, tell account holders by email before they take effect. A change to these terms never starts a payment: you're only charged after choosing a plan and confirming at checkout.
These terms are governed by the law of Spain. If you're a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory rules of the country where you live, and you can bring a claim in the courts there or in Spain.
If you have a problem, please contact us first at hello@teachstudyenglish.com: most things can be sorted out quickly. If we can't resolve it, you can contact your national consumer authority or an approved dispute resolution body.
If a court decides that part of these terms is invalid, the rest still applies. If we don't enforce a right straight away, we can still do so later.
