like / love / enjoy / hate + -ing
- I like playing tennis. (not I like play tennis)
- She enjoys reading. (not She enjoys to read)
- I hate waiting for the bus.
More verbs + -ing
- finish, stop, give up, carry on + -ing: I finished reading the book. He stopped smoking.
- feel like + -ing: I feel like eating pizza tonight.
- go + -ing for activities: go shopping, go swimming, go running.
Spelling
- Most verbs: read → reading, play → playing.
- Verbs with e: make → making, write → writing.
- Double the last letter: run → running, swim → swimming, get → getting.
